ENGLISH 1119 - A NIGHT MARKET

It was a cool Sunday evening, just after a heavy thunderstorm. The air was crisp and there was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. I was ponder at the Verandah of my house. I inhaled a deep breath. I miss the fresh air of this hometown, I really missed my hometown. How long I left this hometown working as a doctor in Singapore, a strange place for a single bachelor like me!. 'What the matter?', someone touched my shoulder gently softly. 'Owhh, nothing dad, just throwback with Atuk flying into my mind', I turned and hugged his old aging body with tears dripping on my eye lid. 'Cheer up young lady, let's go to night market with me!' My dad with his friendly smile hold my hand. I just smiled without any objection.

Here is the popular night market in my hometown. There are various types of delicious tasty food especially traditional authentic taste of hidden professional chef of villagers. A loud sound of blaring music can be heard in the night market background amidst the constant shouting of the sellers and vendors. It is really like a rainbow I saw this evening, full of sights, sounds, smells and colours of night market. Strolling along the havoc night market can makes pregnant women faint of dizziness. I still holding my dad's hand with proud. I am my dad's princess ever!

The row of delicious 'satay' displayed on the glass shelf in one stall beside 'baju bundle' stall dragged my attention, the aroma of it's smell makes my mouth watering. The seller, a handsome young man stared at me. Huh, he is very much like Justin Bieber, I became a little bit crazy in a second! 'you want to buy satay Hani?' My sweet day dreaming suddenly disappeared! 'Yeah!' My dad pointed to a row of 'satay', and asked for RM20 from the cute handsome young man. I felt embarrassing as my dad noticed something is going on between both of us. I grasped my dad's hand like nothing happened soon after I got a plactic of 'satay'.

Then, we continued strolling along the noisy busy night market to the corner where all folks of 'Laksa' and 'Laksam' vendors gathered waiting for their loyal customers. At the one small obsolete stall, I saw a small girl with her blind mother sitting on the ground, with a small stack of 'rambutan' in front of them. Owhh... sadness struck my heart. 'Dad, why don't we buy all their rambutan, we can give to nenek and aunties!'. My dad stopped walking, turned to me. I nodded with hope and sympathy. My dad stepped towards the girl and her blind mom as I expected. 'How much all that rambutan?'. The blind mother looked up. 'rm25 Encik!'. Her voice was very weak and helpless. 'Okay, I take all of them, this is rm50 for you, and your daughter!'. Thank God, I am very proud of my dad!.

That is my unforgettable experience spending couple of hours with daddy in the bright and happening night market. Hence, I learn something  novel and fresh about people. There are many people endeavor to earn daily living in the night market. Many of them are villagers and manly fathers who sacrifice time for a pot of rice waiting for customers with hope. In spite of shopping at the giant Mall, I think we can spend our money here, at the night market!.
